Apollo Records (english version)
Today we want to write about the comeback of legendary Belgian record label – Apollo Records, a world famous subsidiary of our beloved R&S Records.
Since its re-launch in 2006, now London based R&S record managed to acquire world’s leading artists in electronic music as it has done in 90s by releasing Aphex Twin, Jaydee, Model 500 etc. etc. Now it is a label which brings music of James Blake, Blawan, Pariah, Lone, Space Dimension Controller and other new heroes of today to our ears. Same is the plan for the new Apollo records.
In the 90s, Apollo records released number of notable material, like Aphex Twin – Selected Ambient Works 85-92, DJ Krush – Ki Oku and numerous works by Biosphere and Locust.
In 2009, the return of Apollo records was marked with the release of the Apollo Past > Present > Future CD compilation. It included the tracks by legendary Underworld, Locust, and a remix of Golden Girls’ Kinetic by David Morley who was also the first to be released on Apollo back in 1992.
Newly signed artists of the label include Georgian producer Gacha whose work we all admire. He’s tracks are currently being mastered and will be released in early summer this year. The list of other confirmed upcoming releases and signed artists is provided below.
Behind all of this is Renaat Vandepapeliere, Belgian founder of both labels and a ruthless enthusiast. Listening to hundreds of demos he wants to release music which does not follow trends, but which are creating trends immediately after seeing the sunlight. But why did he create a sublabel of R&S records? In a recent interview to chaslmusic.com he explains his motives:
‘Apollo was an escape for me, it’s a balance. Dance music is something serious. I can have fun, I can drive home, but then I would put on an Apollo CD’.
But Apollo was not and will not be a label only for laying back and chilling out. As you can hear from new signings, Apollo’s sound is quite diverse and it provides an ear-candy for all types of electronic music lovers. From lo-fi beats and smooth guitar riffs to 8-bit elements and unforgettable vocals.
